Megan Thomas
Clinical Psychologist
Megan is a Clinical Psychologist and APS Board Approved Supervisor, with 10 years’ experience.
Megan views therapy as a safe space where you can feel supported to reflect on your life and how your current challenges are impacting you. She takes the time to get to know you and your story - because you are a ‘whole person’ and not defined by your problems. Her expertise is in working with adults and she has experience with most wellbeing and mental health challenges.
Megan is particularly interested in supporting Indigenous peoples and has been privileged to live and work in the Kimberley region (WA) and in the APY Lands (SA/NT). She is also committed to helping people who live rural and remote, and supporting those in the helping professions. Prior to working in clinical psychology, Megan had 16 years’ experience in organisational psychology - so she has a good understanding about how organisations and systems work, and how these systems impact employees.
Megan describes herself as a “trans-theoretical" therapist, which is a fancy way of saying she is not attached to one type of therapy model. There is no “one size fits all” – she considers what has brought you into the room and then draws on the most appropriate models, techniques and resources. Having said this, her work is grounded in research & evidence, and she most frequently use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Sensorimotor psychotherapy and Narrative therapy. She is also well versed in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). All of her work is trauma informed.
